Guardian Monitor
Guardian Monitor $29.95
My software program this week is an invaluable tool for parents, teachers, and small companies. I have reviewed this program as a parent.
If you are like most parents, you are still at work when your children get home from school. I often get e-mails from worried parents who know their children are online while they are still at work, but because their children are computer savvy, and erase the history files, they have no way of knowing where they have been going online.
Imagine if you could install a software program on your computer at home, that would send you e-mail updates of all activity on the computer. You would know when the computer was turned on, who logged into it, and what web sites were visited.
This week, I have been reviewing such a program, it is called Guardian Monitor. This software monitors Web sites, chat, email, instant messaging and peer to peer sites, including KaZaA.
You can set Guardian Monitor to operate openly, or use a stealth mode. I would suggest that you use stealth mode, which hides the program files, but leave on the message that tells the user “This system is being monitored” This way, your children know that you are watching out for their safety.
With Guardian Monitor you can record chats and instant messenger conversations. You can see which chat rooms they visited, who they were talking with and when. You see both sides of the conversation and can print it for later review.
With Guardian Monitor you get a time lapse video recording of your computer monitor. You can quickly scan through a recording to monitor computer use. You can customize the frequency of each video recording and no recordings are taken when there is no activity.
With Guardian Monitor you can record each web site that was visited, by whom and at what time. You can view web sites visited by not only Internet Explorer and Netscape, but any other hidden web browser on the computer.
You can select a special Hot Key combination to open Guardian and login to review its recordings.
At $29.95, this tool is a great deal for parents.
