Dear Computer Lady,

When a window comes up and says you have adware and spyware on your computer… Is this true or a gimmick for you to buy their program? I went to two stores to buy the disc to remove the spyware and they don’t sell those.

You are correct to wonder about those windows. They are nothing more than an advertisement meant to trick you into buying their program. I recently read an article in PC World which tested some of the popular spyware removal tools, you can read their results here:

I usually use several free tools to protect the computer I work on. I install Spybot, Search & Destroy and Spywareblaster to keep computers from getting infected.
