I have a new laptop which came with Microsoft trial which, as you probably know, allows you to access MS a number of times (I forgot how many) and you have to enter the key number each time until you are not longer able to access it.
The problem I am having is that I purchased MS after my trial expired and didn’t us MS’s link from the trial version. So now, every time I open MS I get that screen asking me for the key number and if I just continue on through that process, it will not allow me to do anyting on the MC doc that it opens.
Can you help???
Thanks!

Here is a quick Windows 7 tip for you.
Did you know that you can change the sounds your computer makes during different system events like starting up, error sounds, new mail sounds and more?
Windows 7 comes with several different sound schemes, and you can try them all out. Here is how:

Dear Computer Lady,
What is the Windows XP registry? How can you see how it works, and is there anyway to clean it up if necessary?
Are there any decent programs available to clean it up?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Respectfully, Robert

Dear Computer Lady,
Through my workplace, I was able to purchase Microsoft Office 2010 for home us at a ridiculously low price. While I was happy to be able to have it to prepare myself for when my company makes the switch, I find I’m not really happy with it. In particular, I hate the “ribbon” approach. Do you know of any way to set things up the old way? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Your column is wonderful and filled with so many useful things. Thank you.

Dear Computer Lady,
In the software program, Word Perfect, you create folders and then you can also create sub folders within those folders. Can sub folders be created in MS Word. I have Windows XP version. The folders are much easier to manage with sub folders because you don’t have all of these different folders on your documents listing.
Thank you, Peggy

Dear Computer Lady,
When using Outlook for Office I’m often searching for emails. The default is apparently to start a search at the oldest date and work forward, as that is way the results come onto the screen. It seems most people, and especially me, would like to search the most recent emails first and work backward to the oldest.
Is there a way to change the way Outlook performs this function?
Thanks very much! Ben

Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for all the work you put into the Ask The Computer Lady newsletter. Your efforts are so widely helpful.
Is there any place to download “free” drivers. I have a Gateway Computer with XP and no sound. Every place I have found leads to a site that charges $29.95 for drivers.
Thanks in advance, Merri in Michigan
