Dear Computer Lady,

I don’t know if you have answered this but I cant seem to find it.

I used to have a progress bar at the bottom of my page and when I would click to go to the next page it would show me how much longer it would take but I cant seem to find it now I have tried everything.

Thanks Jean

Dear Jean,

That progress bar is located in a part of the Internet Explorer window called the Status Bar.

To be able to see it again, open Internet Explorer, click on “View” in the menu bar, then click to put a check mark in front of “Status Bar”.

In Netscape 7, Click on “View” in the menu bar, then point to Show/Hide and in the submenu click on “Status Bar”.

Dear Computer Lady,

When you come to call, [via e-mail] I’m always there to greet ya with a smile!

How do I totally delete installed programs such as credit card account info. on accounts that I’d make payments on-line? They’re not on my ‘add/remove’ programs list.

Regards, Rosetta

Dear Rosetta,

When you enter your credit card information on a website to make payments online, you are not installing the information as a program, you are using your web browser program. If you want to make sure the information that you entered is not still on your computer, you just need to clean out your web browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, just follow these directions.

1. Open Internet Explorer and click on “Tools” and then “Internet Options”.

2. In the Internet Options window, make sure the “General” tab is selected.

3. On the General page, locate the “Browsing History” section and click on the “Delete…” button

4. A “Delete Browsing History” window will open.

5. Click the “Delete files…” button for Temporary Internet Files and click “Yes” in the window that asks if you are sure you want to. Wait until the process is finished.

6. Click the “Delete forms…” button I the Form data section, click “Yes” and when the data has been deleted, you can close all the windows.

If you are using Google Chrome…

1. Open Chrome and click on the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner.

2. Click on “Clear Browsing Data” in the drop down menu.

3. Make sure there is a check mark in front of Empty the cache.

4. Click on the drop down list next to, “Clear data from this period:”

5. Click the “Clear Browsing Data” at the bottom of the window.

6. When everything has been cleaned, the window will automatically close.

If you are using Netscape…

1. Open Netscape and in the menu bar, click on “Tools” and “Clear Private Data”.

2. Make sure there is a check mark in front of “Saved form and search history”

3. Make sure there is a check mark in front of “Cache”.

4. Click the “Clear Private Data Now” button.

5. When everything has been cleaned, the window will automatically close.

I don’t have an account with AOL, so I couldn’t tell you how to do this in AOL. If any readers have AOL and would like to share the steps, feel free to leave a comment with the directions below.
